Inner Circle: Dr. Elizabeth Wade

We are so grateful to be in community with an array of wonderful makers, facilitators, and experts across a variety of fields. This month we’re featuring Portland-based naturopathic doctor, Dr. Elizabeth Wade. Often helping others find their balance with holistic health, she took a moment to connect with us on her inner world and the rituals she turns to when she needs support.

How would you describe your current phase of life?

— The last few years I’ve been in a deep reclamation of self and more recently dropping into surrender. Both of my children have helped guide me daily in this process, however, the birth of my daughter three years ago was particularly powerful. Aftering experiencing a truly ecstatic birth with her alone in my bedroom, I reclaimed complete trust in my ability to make decisions from a place of deep seated intuition. It was the beginning of the path towards coming home to myself and shedding what doesn’t feel aligned or in my highest good. I’ve made some monumental changes in relationships that have pivoted the direction of my life. It certainly hasn’t been easy, but I can feel with my entire being that I’m on the right path.

I feel most myself when...

I feel safe. This concept feels so simple but really important nonetheless. After a wild and challenging year separating from a lifetime partner and living in Airbnbs while my home underwent mold remediation, I have never appreciated people and places more that allow me to feel truly safe. Having a home to land back in after a very disorienting year has brought such a deep sense of relief. It is a luxury that I never want to take for granted again. I recognized that my creative expression was really stifled when living in other people’s homes and it’s been so pleasurable to lean back into my essence of cooking/baking and tending to my spaces as if they are living altars. Just as my home allows for a container of safety, so do many special people in my life. There’s a deep exhale my nervous system feels around those that are willing to meet me in complete vulnerability and acceptance. When people show up with open hearts and understanding, I find myself blossoming in their presence and able to be in full expression of self.

What’s your recipe for ’taking care’?

— For most of my life, being physically active and having some sort of movement routine has helped me feel balanced. Lately though, a bigger focus has been on cultivating more peace and serenity in my life. Doing less is something I’ve always struggled with, but more and more I am attune to how unhealthy hustle culture is. Even though I am a big dreamer with lots of goals, I’m most interested in co-creating magical moments with my children and teaching them how to anchor in peace in a world that doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. I’m actively trying to move out of states of overwhelm and so a lot of the decisions I make these days are based on how to position myself for success in staying grounded and calm. I am fortunate to work with many amazing people in my practice that are struggling with similar issues which illuminates this universal need to reconnect with ourselves and our ability to tune into our own truth and trust it. There’s an increasing large amount of external noise and opinions present and now more than ever, this feels like an essential survival tool if we want to lead a life that’s in alignment with our greatest good.

Describe your favorite Under Luna ritual.

— Oh, I love the double wash ritual with the Grounded shampoo. I’ve always felt drawn to a double wash to get a more clarifying effect with shampoo, especially since I’m not an everyday washer. I really enjoy having bouncy, clean hair. I find that using the Grounded shampoo and Luna Clear conditioner every 3 days is the perfect reset for my hair.
