Inner Circle: Michele Macy, founder of Milk Moon
Meet Michele, founder of Milk Moon — herbalist, mother, and doula-turned-entrepreneur. What began as her own healing journey through postpartum depletion has blossomed into a thriving herbal line rooted in ritual, nourishment, and reverence for the natural world.
Today, Michele calls this her most inwardly content phase of life — a season where family, creativity, and her passion for supporting women all come together in harmony.

How would you describe your current phase of life?
— This phase of my life feels very easeful. I turned 45 this year and I’m finding myself reflecting frequently on what my life looks like in middle age and I’m pleased with what I see.
My two adult children are thriving as they make their way in the world, and my 8 year old is in that magic window of middle childhood where things are relatively easy. My business is humming along beautifully and I get to share my days with my husband, who is also my business partner.
I spent so much energy in my younger years seeking and struggling and filled with angst about who I should be and what my life should look like. At this point my days are busy and sometimes hectic, but this is the most inwardly content phase of my life so far. Middle age feels like a giant exhale.

I feel most myself when...
I feel most like myself when I am with my family. This is particularly true when I am with my adult kids. I had them when I was young, and we grew up together in a lot of ways. I have spent half my life as their mom and they are such a huge part of who I am and how I understand my life’s journey.
What’s your recipe for ’taking care’?
— I am a solitary person by nature, so alone time is a huge part of taking care of myself, body, mind and spirit. I require a fair amount of space to connect with my creativity, and daydream and problem solve on my own.
My life is very full so I have to be intentional about meeting this need for myself, so that I don’t get to a place of burnout. Most frequently these days that means walking in the woods with my two cattle dogs. They give me a perfect excuse to carve out the time I need to reset and come back to myself.
Tell us about Milk Moon —what sparked the idea and what keeps you going?
— The idea for Milk Moon came out of my challenging postpartum experience after my 3rd baby was born. I wasn't finding the type of help I wanted within the mainstream medical framework, so I went on a journey to try to heal myself. I dove deep into herbal medicine and learning about postpartum depletion and I started making products for myself to address the specific issues I was having. Slowly but surely I healed; not only from postpartum depression, but I now understand I was healing from years of depletion and nervous system overload prior to my pregnancy.
Then one day I decided that I was going to start a business with these products I had made and found so helpful. It is hilarious to me now looking back, because I had zero business experience and no idea what I was doing. But Milk Moon took off immediately and I just figured it all out along the way. We’ve been in business 6 years and 3 years ago my husband left the corporate world to join me in running things. As a former doula, I have always had a heart for mothers and babies, and having gone through a very rough postpartum together, Jeff and I both share a commitment to helping other families.

Describe your favorite Under Luna ritual.
— I have been a big fan of the Tulsi Bloom Shampoo for years. It smells exactly like the tulsi I have growing in my garden. I am amazed by how the full complexity of that scent is captured in the shampoo without artificial fragrance. I’m obsessed.
I also really enjoy the All Things Oil. The smell is incredible. I use it as a full body moisturizer at the end of my shower when my skin is still damp.
