Inner Circle: Shay Carrillo

Muse, maker, the ultimate madre, Shay Carrillo, founder and designer of Madre Linen, embodies our deep reverence for all things slow-living, handmade, and joyous. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Shay to capture a snippet of her world (aka garden of our dreams!) to inaugurate the beginning of our monthly community-based spotlight, Inner Circle. 

How would you describe your current phase of life?

I am in a very transitional period of life. I've given the last 23 years of my life to mothering and it has been my greatest pride and joy. As I approach 50 this fall, I am hoping that I can lean into my career and my artistic pursuits which are vast and abundant. 

I feel most myself when... in the kitchen cooking for those I love. It brings me incredible joy to cook for others. I also feel most myself when I am exploring a new place- I love to travel and hope my later adult years include more of it.

What’s your recipe for ’taking care?’

As I am fully in middle age, I find I feel the best when I tend to eating well, hydrating and moving my body daily, and taking care of my mind through meditation and breath work. Sometimes it feels like a full time job in addition to my other full time job.

Describe your favorite Under Luna ritual.

I love using the body oil right after a warm shower when my pores are open. As a person with extremely sensitive skin and very sensitive to fragrance- the oil has just the right amount to feel luxurious and sensory without being overbearing.
