Itchy scalp, dry scalp, dandruff - ACV rinse to the Rescue!

At our core, we’re passionate about the benefits of apple cider vinegar (ACV). While its taste may not be for everyone, ACV offers significant advantages for gut health and the immune system. Its antibacterial properties make it an excellent natural remedy for scalp issues.

What is Malassezia?
Malassezia is a common fungus present on the scalp. However, when its levels rise 1.5 to 2 times above normal, it can lead to dandruff—a condition many of us are familiar with.

Conventional Treatments vs. Natural Remedies
Typically, doctors may prescribe shampoos containing harsh chemicals like zinc pyrithione to combat dandruff. However, apple cider vinegar is a powerful alternative that effectively targets this yeast-like fungus in a simple and cost-effective manner.

 

How to Prepare an Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse:

  1. Fill a spray bottle partially with apple cider vinegar.
  2. Dilute with water in a ratio of 1 part ACV to 3 parts water (adjust to your preference).
  3. Apply generously to your scalp, ensuring complete coverage. You may experience a slight tingling sensation.
  4. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
  5. Rinse thoroughly in the shower with your UL shampoo + conditioner.

 

Additional Tips:

  • Choose the Right Shampoo: For dandruff and oily scalps, we recommend using Warrior Shampoo, which targets dandruff and alleviates congestion. For dry, flaky scalps, Luna Clear Shampoo is the ideal choice.
  • Frequency of Washing: Avoid prolonged gaps between washes. Malassezia thrives on scalp oils, so regular cleansing is essential, even if your scalp feels dry.
  • Weekly Rinse: Incorporate an ACV rinse once a week and consider taking ACV internally daily until the condition improves. Afterward, maintain scalp health as a preventive measure.
  • Overnight Hair Mask: For added nourishment, apply Under Luna Conditioner to damp hair and scalp, secure it in a bun, and leave it overnight. Wash your hair the following morning.

 

Remember, issues on the surface often reflect internal health. To support scalp healing, consider reducing sugar, alcohol, and gluten intake, as Malassezia can respond to these dietary factors.

As we evolve, so does the brand. Under Luna has come a long way from mixing oils in our founder's kitchen. We saw this as an opportunity to hone in on our current identity (new shapes and colors!), prioritizing comfort (no more shattering glass in the shower!), ease (retail boxes to make shipping and our stockists a little happier), and cohesion (all of our shampoos and conditioners are now the same price across the board!).

We've been working on this vision for the past 2 years, and as we know, a lot has changed from then to now. As a small business, we have decided to swallow additional costs to keep our products as accessible as possible while maintaining our commitment to high quality ingredients and ethical partnerships.

Major Differences?

Packaging

All shampoos and conditioners will be in 100% recyclable aluminum bottles. With an increase in recycling life (infinite!) and durability, we knew that the logistics paired with the ease of a child-friendly and slippery-shower-proof material would be a great choice.

Colors

We updated our branding with some tweaks to the color coding you may have grown used to! The big changes are Tulsi Conditioner now having a mauve colored moon (previously green) and Revive Conditioner having a deep forest green moon (previously light blue). Feel free to reference the diagram on the right for the whole lineup of colors.

Cost + Size

Another change is that we will be offering only one size per shampoo and conditioner. We've opted for 9.5oz (~50 washes) for longevity. All shampoos and conditioners will be available for $38, with a 10% discount applied to those that subscribe.
